The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has immortalised the late Sir Victor Uwaifo, naming the Edo Creative Hub after the late music maestro.

In his tribute at the lying-in-state for late Uwaifo, held in Benin City, the governor described the passing of the music legend as the end of an era.

Other dignitaries at the event include Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu; former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki; Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun and the Chief of Staff to Edo State Governor, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, among others.

Obaseki said the government and the people of Edo mourn the death of a living legend adding, “For us, the passing of Sir Victor Uwaifo marks the end of an era that produced some of the prolific artistes from Edo. It was a generation with creative minds, such as the late Erhabor Emopkai, Dr. Victor Eghareva and Sir Victor Uwaifo. Uwaifo’s passing marks the end of that era.

There will be spaces for artistes in the performing arts. That is the least we can do for a man who changed the face of music in Nigeria; that is the least we can do for the man who composed the song, Joromi. That was the first song from Africa and Nigeria to win a golden disc as at the time it did.”

“We will always remember Sir Victor Uwaifo for what he meant and what he represented. He represented Edo values which include hard work, creativity and innovation. It is going to be very difficult for us to imagine our entertainment scene and music space without Sir Victor Uwaifo. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the governor added.

As a mark of honour to the late guitar boy, the Edo State Government has decided that our newly built creative hub will be named after Uwaifo. This creative hub which is going to be commissioned by the second week of November 2021, has a multi-million-dollar studio to support artistes.

He noted that the hub will “promote creativity in Edo. It has editing suites. It will incubate state-based groups and artistes. It will be used for live shows. It has studios for Nollywood to rent for their productions.

With Davido and Wizkid currently leading the show, a whole lot more will certainly be achieved in local entertainment, particularly the music industry and we can feel it like the swoosh sound of a breezy, cold evening in Lagos.

Sony Music/ RCA have been instrumental in making some of these big dreams come to fruition. We can’t stress this enough and truth is we will probably never be able to overemphasize the subject.

On Monday, October 31, 2016; American television star Taraji Henson shared a screenshot of a song she is currently, totally in love with and it turns out she is expressing overt admiration for none other than Nigerian pop star, Davido.

In response, the Gbagbe Oshi crooner stated that he’d love to get on the set of Empire, her hit TV show, so as to further sizzle things with his African heat.

How interesting these words, about an African entertainer, specifically a Nigerian music star.

What’s even more interesting is how she termed the song a ‘heater’.
What an amazingly impressive way to put it, to describe a song by a non-American artiste (well, not to say Davido wasn’t born in Atlanta, USA as reports have stated time and again but to say he is clearly an African music star.

Anyway, to put this is clearer light; a heater is a device that heats water or supplies warmth to a room.

Now, Taraji Henson was saying figuratively that Davido's song with Tinashe is a total, well-crafted piece of work so good it gets her body livened.

ANYBODY who knows me know I LOVE MUSIC!!!especially WORLD MUSIC!!! Thank you @tymwallacehair for turning me on to another heater!!!

This could well serve as make or break phase for the local industry so we must take complete advantage of the exposure and the attendant media buzz from the international communities.

There probably will be no better opportunity to set the world afire with our sounds, hence we must never lose the core of it.

So as much as crossing over is awesome, artists in the vanguard of this phase must stay true to their roots.

The likes of Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Tiwa Savage must never be disillusioned to the point they think they are on top of things and can afford to mess with their crafts or serve whatever to the audience. Because in the end, when all has been said and done, only music with substance will stand the test of time.
