Abia State Police Commissioner, Leye Oyebade, said that the suspect identified as Matthew Elah , said to be a native of Uba community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, was
arrested » following a report alleging that some policemen had robbed » and snatched a motorcycle from its owner at Umuteke-Akwette road, Abia State.
While parading the suspect at the command, Oyebade said that the suspect confessed to committing the crime with another Police Sergeant, one
Isah Alhaji of 48, Police Mobile Force Ahoda, Rivers State, Punch reports.
According to the CP, the second sergeant is still on the run, but the command was tracking him down.
Oyebade disclosed that the police is also making efforts to recover the stolen motorcycle and that Elah will soon be arraigned in court.
He added that “police have zero tolerance for corruption; the police in the country have zero tolerance for crime of any kind.”
Speaking with journalists, the suspect expressed remorse for his criminal actions, blaming it on the devil.
The suspect said that he was escorting those behind the theft of the motorcycle when the police showed up and arrested him while his accomplices escaped.
