A fresh militant attack on a state-run oil pipeline near the southern Nigerian oil hub of Warri has generated uproar among Nigerians on social media.
Attacks by several militant groups on oil facilities has the nation’s oil output reduce drastically.
The attack on Trans Forcados export line was reportedly carried out late on Tuesday, November 1, just hours after President Muhammadu Buhari met with representatives of militant groups in the oil-rich Niger delta to discuss how to end the unrest plaguing the region.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack, but such attacks have become regular since February, with several militant groups attacking oil facilities and slashing the nation’s output and hammering revenues.
Following this latest attack, the social media has been awash with arguments by commentators suggesting that the militants are bent on frustrating the Muhammadu Buhari administration because the president did same to the Jonathan administration.
But some Nigerians enraged by the attacks have slammed the militants for worsening the economic situation of Nigerians through the bombing of oil installations.
